Tommy Jackson was born in Phoenix, Arizona in 1958 and grew up learning silversmithing from his parents, Martha and Gene Jackson. That kind of lineage matters in Navajo craft: the techniques, the design sensibility, and the patience the work demands are passed down through families, not classrooms. Tommy came up through that tradition and has spent his career building on it.

What distinguishes his work is how he holds two things at once. His pieces carry the geometry and weight of traditional Navajo design while moving toward something more contemporary in proportion and finish.
